Assignment 4: Constructing Visual Aids

This memorandum analyzes 2010 U.S. labor force participation rates by sex and educational attainment, using a grouped bar chart to make two trends legible at once: participation rising with education for both men and women, and the male-female gap narrowing sharply as attainment increases. The choice of visual — a grouped bar rather than a line or pie — reflects a deliberate reasoning about which chart type actually serves the comparison being made, rather than defaulting to the first available format. Moving from raw CPS and Census data to a clear visual, a summary table, and a policy recommendation grounded in the pattern demonstrates the data-to-insight translation central to the Scholarship and Research domain.
